1. Who we are
Penzio operates a dating and social discovery service for adults in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. The data controller for your personal data is Penzio (contact: support@penzio.co.ke) pending final corporate registration details, which will be updated here after legal review.
2. Data we collect
We may collect:
- Account data — name or display name, email, phone number, date of birth, gender, photos, bio, preferences, and city.
- Usage data — matches, likes, messages, reports, device type, app version, and log data such as IP address and timestamps.
- Payment data — subscription status and transaction references from payment partners (we do not store full card numbers where mobile money or third-party checkout is used).
- Communications — messages you send on Penzio and support correspondence.
- Location — approximate location based on the city you select or device permissions you grant, where available.
3. How we use data
We use personal data to:
- Provide and improve the Penzio service;
- Verify eligibility (including minimum age);
- Show you potential matches according to your preferences;
- Process subscriptions and send billing-related notices;
- Enforce Community Guidelines and respond to reports;
- Communicate service updates, security alerts, and support replies;
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
4. Legal bases
Where the Kenya Data Protection Act applies, we rely on consent, contract performance, legitimate interests (such as fraud prevention and product safety), and legal obligation as appropriate. You may withdraw consent where processing is consent-based, subject to limitations for ongoing contractual or legal requirements.
5. Sharing
We may share data with:
- Service providers — hosting, analytics, customer support, and payment processors under confidentiality agreements.
- Other users — profile information you choose to display and messages you send to matches.
- Authorities — when required by law or to protect safety, including cooperation with law enforcement in Kenya or other jurisdictions when legally compelled.
We do not sell your personal data.
6. International transfers
Your data may be processed in Kenya and in other countries where our providers operate. We implement safeguards appropriate to the transfer, to be finalised with counsel.
7. Retention
We retain data while your account is active and for a limited period afterward for legal, security, and dispute-resolution purposes. See Account Deletion for erasure requests.
8. Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or portability of your data, and object to certain processing. Contact support@penzio.co.ke. You may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (Kenya) or the relevant authority in your country.
9. Security
We use technical and organisational measures to protect data. No system is perfectly secure; please use a strong password and report suspected compromise promptly.
10. Children
Penzio is not for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. Report underage users via in-app tools or safety@penzio.co.ke.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be communicated through the app or email where appropriate.
